An opportunity to return to an elementary school to participate in an annual program, that encourages parents of color to read to students, was a refreshing change from my usual schedule.
The best part of the day was an opportunity to read a book in the classroom of Maestra, who is a Bilingual Resource Teacher, a wife and mother of 2 adult college students and most of all my friend.
I was honored when I walked in her class to see a sea of First Language Spanish Speaking Students. I hope that they enjoyed hearing a non-native spanish speaker, reading to them in their native language with excitement and drama, as much as I did. I, also enjoyed the entire process of coming to their school to participate in READ YOUR HEART OUT DAY.
I would like to publicly thank Maestra for what she does to reach out to her students and make sure that their academic needs are met and peppered with love. Thank you also to the wonderful Principal and Assistant Principal, for hosting parents on READ YOUR HEART OUT DAY and throughout the school year. I, was honored to be able to participate in this wonderful event.
